Health economics research focuses on pharmacoeconomics and health services research. Local HIV natural history data has been gathered from Somerset Hospital's outpatient clinics to develop a Markov model of disease progression. This data, together with other local costing information, is being used to model the cost-effectiveness of antiretroviral and prophylaxis strategies for the state medical services.
A pharmacoeconomic consulting service is also offered to pharmaceutical companies, medical aid schemes and other clients on the technical aspects of expenditure modelling and pharmacoeconomic analysis.
